Every evening when I return from work, there are four or five dead mice stacked neatly on their doorstep. Gone in the morning, new ones in the evening.
What the hell is going on?
Is this some sort of thing people do now or what?

They do not own a cat.
It's beginning to alarm me.

Its probably a cat - my cat used to do that, they like to leave food for its family as they think we might go hungry!

It's probably a cat, just because they dont "own" a cat per se, doesnt mean a cat has not chosen to own them.... when a cat chooses people they leave gifts.
Or maybe they have a mouse problem and when they empty their mouse traps they put the mice outside for animals to eat... Why dont you just ask them? then you will know for sure. Otherwise you will always wonder and regret not discovering the reason behind it..

PS why would it alarm you? its just dead mice, its not like there would be any danger to it unless you picked them up and maybe got sick from it... lol I have heard of people being scared of mice but never dead ones....LMAO

They may not own a cat, but perhaps they are friendly with a stray, who is trying to get inside and hopes to win the owners favor by proving what a good hunter he/she is.

The other possibility is they are catching the mice in traps inside the house and are leaving them out as food for neighbourhood cats.

I think also that cat is hunting mouses and brings them to the doorstep. Then your neighbour finds them in the morning and throws them away.

I believe you're right to be concerned. However, this doesn't seem to me to be a critical situation. (I don't live next door to these cretins). I would, though, if I were you, pay close attention to other things that may be going on------------unexplained disappearances of neighbors' mail, newspapers, or children--------Sounds of a mysterious nature emanating from their house----------smoke coming from their chimney in midsummer-------and if these or similar things occur you should rouse the rest of the neighborhood and set upon them in a torchlight assault bearing farm implements (preferably with at least six gypsies in your posse)

its probably their cat. cats like to bring things like mice and birds home to share your neighbours are probably cleaning them up and the cats fetching new ones sounds like they`ve got a good mouser
