I gave up smoking for three years (hypnotherapy), then had an operation recently under genreal anethesitc, and craved a *** so badly afterwards, I just started right up again. Been smoking 10 a day for three months now. Do I tell my parents (in their 70s) that I've started again before I go back for Xmas or do I try and hide it from them?

As both my Dad and my brother smoke, cigarettes in the house isn't an issue, and everyone smokes outside, or in the veranda when Mom is in bed. Literally, both Mom and Dad are on their last legs , and they are so proud I gave up... I will give up again, but I've just not got the money for the hypnotherapy right now, and nicotene patches have never worked. I will be able not to smoke in the house (just out with my mates for drinks over Christmas) - but if mom keeps me up one night on the brandy (usually happens once over Christmas time), I will be craving so badly. I will WANT to stay up and talk with her - it may be our last Christmas together - but this awful habit may send me to bed early. I don't want to let her down...

You're not seriously considering smoking in the bathroom with the window open like a teenager?

When your mum finds your f*gs (what's the matter with these people - why can't we call a *** a ***?) are you going to tell her "you're keeping them for someone else"?

They're not daft, you know.

Either own up in advance or steel yourself not to smoke at their place.

You ought to tell them...honesty is always the best way.
Even better (whatever help it takes) pack it up again.
After all a lit cigarette is just a white tube with a small fire at one end and a big fool at the other!
You know that is the sensible way without asking, don't you?

If both your parents still have a sense of smell - dont lie/hide it from them - they'll smell you a mile away.

I wouldnt bring it up unless they ask. If you need to smoke after dinner, go outside and smoke - be honest...........I was with my mum after I gave up for two years and started again!

Good luck

well if your mum does not smoke she will be able to tell right away that your back on the ciggies...just tell them that your smoking again, but try some more hypnotherapy if it worked for 3 years.....there's no harm in trying again....

Non-smokers, particularly mothers, have a knack for telling when you've been smoking, and it doesn't matter if you're 14 or 40, its still the same.

I'd just tell her.

I wouldn't tell them, what's the point. Mind you they may smell it off you. What they don't know can't hurt them. Do try and give up tho, it is so 'unhealthy' and expensive, just thought I'd say that in case you didn't know!!!!!! :)
