Many people would stare at the vastness of the universe and the large numbers and simply state that it must be infinite. In fact the universe is not infinite. It is expanding as of right now but eventually it will either do three things. Stop, Continue, or Collapse, and all three futures involve the destruction of organized life as we know it. No one on earth can comprehend how big exactly the universe is due to relative small size of our own lives and areas where we live.

Really big. I mean REALLY BIG. However big you can imagine, it is even bigger than that. You hear about billions of light years, but that means nothing because we have no concept of a distance so large. Here is an exercise my astronomy class did:
Make a scale model of the solar system. If the Sun is a 2 foot ball, then the Earth is a 1/5 inch marble 214 feet away and Pluto is a 1/25 inch pinhead over a mile and a half away. Now compress that model so that the Sun is a microscopic dot and Pluto is a smaller dot only 1/4 inch away; then the NEAREST other star is 130 feet away. Compress that model so the the Sun and nearest star are only 1/25 inch apart, then the Milky Way galaxy is 70 feet wide. Compress that model again so the the Milky Way is only 2 inches wide, and the nearest other big galaxy, Andromeda, is 6 feet away and those distant galaxies the Hubble telescope sees at billions of light years away are many miles away. It really helps to do exercises like this. We used rolls of paper from adding machines to lay it all out and the tiny planets and stars are completely lost in the vast stretches of empty paper when you do it.

New current estimates that account for inflation have found the universe is about 150,000,000,000 light years across (150 billion)

The universe is also expanding, getting larger at a faster and faster rate constantly.

I suggest not listening to some people that have said it is infinite. The visible universe is absolutely finite.

Also, current WMAP models have confirmed, based on distribution of dark energy, that the universe will continue to expand faster and faster forever.

According to the Benchmark Model of the universe, the furthest distance we can see (the horizon distance) is 14,000 Mpc (megaparsecs), or about 10^10 lightyears. The universe may actually be quite a bit larger than that.

Surprinsingly the universe, seen as the coverage of space and time, is limited, there is a beginning and end to it, what is infinitely increasing is the number of universes, which means this universe is inside a bigger one, with different characteristics and proportions, and that one is inside a bigger one, and so on. Read about the Dilemma of The Perpetual Contention. You'll be surprised.

Huge. It's still expanding too. It's hard to imagine something with no limits, but as far as modern technology has shown, the universe has no boundries and will continue to grow as it has done for billions of years.

If we are correct about it's age being 15 billion years old, then it's at least 30 billion light years across...at least, that's the size of the OBSERVABLE Universe.

If your question contained an e-maail add I could forward a group of pictures that demonstrate how huge the universe is, astonishing: Imagine our sun as one pixel!!!
