Do people choose to be gay or are they born like that?

Can YOU control being heterosexual? Being gay is NOT a choice. It is by nature. I was raised by straight parents, and all of my sisters are also straight. There is nothing 'wrong' about being gay, either. People like you are just so used to the ways you were taught, that you don't even realize that you're not thinking for yourselves and that's a shame. Most gay people ARE born gay. It is not an illness, defect or an imperfection that needs working on. I was BORN a lesbian and even if I didn't act on what's inside of me, I STILL would not be heterosexual! You should spend some time reading books and talking with gay people because you don't know anything about this subject.

I think most of us are born that way or have had a traumatic experience like myself being raped at 15. I tried it both ways for the longest time and found I'm more attacted to women. As I'm 46 and I've been around and I have no remorse in being the way that I am. My mum and sisters are very supportive. As I've been with really emotionally damaged women and as I grow older know more now to stay away from them. As for it to be wrong or immoral to each his or her own.

I know that i was born this way. You can tell from my fourth grade picture that i was gay. I didn't even know what the word meant at the time, but i knew i was different, and i didn't like girls. i liked them as friends more than guys, and i never thought they were pretty, and i never thought of one in any romantic way, especially not marrying one some day.
To address your last sentence, i think a lot of things are wrong, like people who don't keep their yards clean and stay indoors and watch directv, and can't afford to maintain their property or take care of their health, and then depend on medicare to pay for all their health bills. thats just wrong. find something else to worry about.

there probably isnt any gay gene, i mean there are identical twins which are genetically identical and sometimes one is gay and the other is not. i believe that your choice of lover is clearly your choice so you're right it is a choice. perhaps the homosexuals don't really feel like it is a choice, because well, you just wouldn't really think too much about that stuff... anyway don't bombard me angrily this is just what i think thank you!

Actually, you catch it like the cold. THis can happen to a guy if you spend too much time with mom, watching gay cartoons as a child like rainbow bright, playing jump rope, etc.

Well you're certainly allowed to have your oppinions regardless if they are based in any kind of fact or reality.

But this question has been asked several hundred times here, each time the general concensus is that we DO NOT CHOOSE to be gay.

Think about it, who would choose to be harassed, hated, discriminated against, beaten, disowned, lied about and to, even MURDERED simply because of whom they love?

Come on, this really isn't that hard to figure out.

Wrong-schmong. It's NEVER WRONG to LOVE, especially CONCENTUAL LOVE BETWEEN ADULT HUMANS.
We're not talking about inanimate objects, other animals or children here. We're talking about concenting adult human beings. If you can't handle that, that's your problem.

But don't try to convince me otherwise. I've been down that road once already and I don't care to go back to that life of selfhatred, believing lies and living to please others.

I'm just me, no excuses, no regrets. I love my partner with every fiber of my being...and like my son, would gladly lay down my life to protect her.

If that is something you can't phathom, I feel really sorry for you.

First of all B**** the ones who choos do it for attention... but me personally did not choose to be a lesbian..i didnt wake up one day and say hey i think i like girls..no... ever since i was little i was attracted to girls.. i didnt know what it ment but i knew that it was different...and u have ur own belifs but personaly anyone who cant like someone for who the are..is a snob and can go to H E L L .... theres ur answer!!!!

I don't think you can choose the feelings you have inside. I believe that you can choose to hide those feelings and conform to the way society thinks you should be. This leads to unhappy people, alcoholics, drug use and suicide. I personally do not believe that anybody would choose to be persecuted and hated on a daily basis.
