Hi, I have a problem with my 1989 Chevy S10 Tahoe not starting or starting randomly and even stalling sometimes while driving. When I'm driving it sometimes stalls and I press the gas pedal so it won't turn off but it sort of lacks gas or something cause it won't respond right away after I press the gas pedal. I had a friend check it out and he replaced the TPS or throttle position sensor I think is what it was and it would run real good. So after about 2 days it started doing the same thing. So he checked it out again and plugged some sort of small pipe that was exposed near the bottom right front part of the Intake and it would run again for about a day this time. So after that, I unplugged a pipe running from the intake to the brake system thing ( it's a big donut looking thing that's positioned behind the brake fluid deposit, I think they told me it was called the brake booster system or something like that ). So I unplugged it at the brake system end and it would turn on and run OK, not so well it would still stall at times, also the brake pedal was hard to depress. So I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this situation as I'm desperate to get this truck running. Many thanks in advance.

well first off, the reason your brakes are hard is b/c you unpluged the vacuum source for your brake booster. The vacuum is used to help you apply the brakes. So hook that back up!
But to your original problem, I would say that you either have a igniton module going bad or a pick up coil starting to fail. check to see if you have spark at your spark wires. If not, that's most likely your problem. If you do have spark, You might have a fuel pump going out, so check fuel pressure when it won't start.
Hope this gets you in the right direction.

First check the air filter, always check the easy things first. If it is black/clogged get a new one. Second check the fuel filter, if it is clogged it will cause the problems you are having where it will not start or just stall. Next check the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The plugs should be realtivly clean and in one piece, the wires should be some what flexible, if you feel it crack as you bend it a little, you need new wires. The cap and rotor are an easy fix and pretty cheap so it might be best to replace while you working under the hood. Next, which is more dificult would be the fuel pump, if it is bad then it will be hit or miss when starting or running, I had mine go on my Tacoma and it would not start. Finally the alternator, if it is bad then it will cause you to run off the battery and when it dies so does the truck. A quick test is to take it off and run it to a local auto store which will often bench test it for free. I also had to replace my alternator on my truck after it got wet. My truck statred kind of funny and struggled to start, after I got running my lights got dimmer and dimmer and I had to keep on the gas to keep it going. After that if it still does not work then while you are at the auto store pick up an auto-trader.

Fill the bed with dirt and use it for a planter. That's all it's good for now.
