"residents had negative attitudes toward most U.S. policy in the region. Opinions were most negative about the Iraq war and the Palestinian conflict, but also opposed the United States' policy on Lebanon, its promotion of democracy in the region and its challenge of Iran's nuclear program"?

We need as may allies as we can get in the region. It is in no way, shape of form desirable or in out best interests to alienate the majority of the population.

It means that EVERY country except Afghanistan and Iraq (coincidentally, also the ONLY 2 that are democracies) has a state run media.

How can people make an informed decision if the only source of information is the governments? Especially when all but 2 of the governments of the region are monarchies, dictators, theocracies, and other forms of tyranny.

Once again, this is the ENTIRE point of going into Iraq. It has nothing to do with oil, or Haliburton, or any of the other retarded B.S. people spout. It's about changing the entire culture of the region. Until the whole region is democracies, it will continue to be the world's breeding ground for terrorists. 2 down, many more to go.

"not in Satan’s dying world" Last I heard it was God's world, not Satan's. All religions, denominations and even followers can't seem to agree about what certain passages of the Bible mean. Just because it was written in a book that says that it is infallible, does not make it so. Furthermore quoting said book would only be irrelevant. You have been indoctrinated by your parents and their church. Use your own head and start to ask questions like "Why does God need me to worship him at all? Why is there slavery and incest in the Bible? Why don't the ten commandments say anything about rape?" and so on. If you believe in God, then you know that he gave you a brain to think with. Use it.

Public opinion does not and should not dictate what needs to be done.

Also consider that statistics are not facts. Surely you can't believe that whoever conducted this poll lined up every single arab in the world, or hell, even MOST of the arabs in the world to get their opinion. Odds are it's a test group of about 1000 people.

Using the collective opinions of 1000 arabs, or 2000, or even 10,000, to extrapolate the way the whole of the arab world is thinking cannot be considered wise.

I don't say that I believe arabs love the US in general. I'm inclined to agree that most arabs, muslims especially, probably have a dim view of the United States. I just ask anyone who reads polls to take the findings with a grain of salt.

Also, I'm willing to bet that if you conducted that same poll in the United States, France, England, or anywhere but Puerto Rico, you'd see the same result.

Countries find it very easy to dislike the country more powerful than they are.

I cannot say that your statistics are correct but I can say that there are many Arabs and non Arabs (Muslims) who have negative attitudes towards the US. Look at how many Muslim countries the US have gone into to have war. They call it "stopping war on terrorism" but why is America is always playing "police the world?" Why promote anything?

No it's more indicative of their culture.

When you engage in casual conversation with a Arab they frequently insert things about inventing Math and Science. Or China did not invent the firecracker we did.

I think it has to do with LDS and the centuries of living in the closet.

Face it if you live in a Pro Harem culture and the rich get dozens of wife's that leaves a lot of men getting the shaft.

Go big Red Go

Don't Americans have a 80 - 90% negative attitude toward arab muslims too?
Sounds like most people in the world have picked their sides:
Arab? Christian/Jewish?
This is not ground-breaking news. So WHAT IS your question?

Im glad some body listens to the liberal media and their exagerations when there is a republican in office. Democrats sure know how to sling mud even if they have to make it themselves. 80-90% have negative oppinions - yeah 80-90% of those they interviewed well 92% of those the Modern Historical and Sociological Institute interviewed had positive attitudes toward the US- go figure stats can be made to have whatever results you want them too.

These are the same people who strap "play" bombs to their kids ,view Osama Bin Laden as a heroes and wasn't to wipe Israel off the face of the earth...not to mention that Islam has been at war with practically everyone else sin the false prophet killed his way through the Arabian peninsula.

So in that reference ,I think we are not doing enough...

PS Promoting democracy is a great evil to people of tyrannical regimes..

Oh, of coarse we are doing the right thing. Every country on earth wishes for America to invade and then occupy. President Bush calls this spreading democracy.
