i want to extend a brick wall by making the bond look continuous so eliminating any visible joints

You need to teeth out alternate courses.
Then after you continue your run get some brick acid to tone down the fresh mortar. Don't forget to neutralise the acid with water when finished.

You could tooth it out or place a 4x4, 6x6, or 8x8 at the place you wish to continue (set in ground ),and then just start your extension next to the wood. Sometimes toothing out will cause you to take out more than you would wish.

This will be fun,,not! You'll need to grind out mortar between courses and remove the halves on every other course! Good Luck! :-)=
