Old shoes that you find on the street ... they're free
When you see that one shoe on the street, have you ever wondered how it got there? Where's the other one? ... I think it would be a very eccentric thing to collect :)

Heres something I bet no ones come up with so far. Gift cards, you know those little things that look like credit cards people give em' to you as gifts if they can't think of anything else. They are free and you can pretty much get them in any store you go to. They're all different and you'll always have new ones to collect. I recently heard about a guy who has a Starbucks gift card worth a couple thousand dollars, so you can sell em' for big bucks later on. I just started collecting them and my collections growing fast because I can get as many as I want when I go to the store.

Try money - having a collection of it can be a very big plus later on in life, and you can start for just pennies a day!
Seriously: whatever you collect, go for quality - that way your collection will hold, or increase in value. Avoid items that are easily breakable, and collect something that you really enjoy. Have fun!

Collect pocket change. At the end of a day, empty it in a jar. Pretty soon, that will turn into a lot of money, far more than stamps or baseball cards could do.

My son collects postcards. Everyone knows to send him one when they are on vacation. Some people even buy him those little booklets full of postcards.
I have started collecting playing cards. Everytime someone goes into a gift shop there are decks of cards there. Now, they bring them to me after their vacations!
