Yes, this does sound like early labour, which can continue for about 1 week. If your baby is lying back to back (their back lying on your back) then pain usually starts in the back. You need to encourage your baby around into a better position, you can do this by sitting upright and not slouching back in a comfy chair. Another way is to get on your hands and knees and using the belly like a hammock this encourages baby's back around to the front, which is the way the baby will come out.

Also try lying in a warm bath on your left hand side this will encourage baby's back around and also help with the pain.

You need to contact the delivery suite at your local hospital if you are unsure about anything, remember they are a 24 hour service and can advise you over the phone.

I hope this helps, and hopefully not much longer to go!!!!

Yes it could be. Keep an eye out for increase in the pain and pressure. You can't always go by what everyone else says either. On my second child (who was born at 38 weeks), I had no pain but my water broke so I went to the hospital. THEY told ME that I was in labour....that my contractions were less than 5 minutes apart and that I was dilated 5 cms. And still no pain.

Just be careful to watch out for other signs. Increase in mucus discharge, any blood or pink tinges on toilet paper, gushing (there doesn't have to be a lot of fluid for your water to be broken), diarrhea.

BTW, Braxton-Hicks contractions are usually felt in the lower abdomen and groin....true contractions usually felt in the upper part of your belly and your lower back.

It sure could be early labor. (many women do not feel braxton hicks with their first pregnancy) Take a bath, go for a walk, and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, then you are in labor. Early labor can go on for a long time, so if you are having a hospital birth, be sure you are ready to walk out the door, and then have a snack, a shower, and a nap. There's no rush. Relax and enjoy!

yes, these are sign of early labor.....considering you are 38 weeks you should be going to the doctor weekly and if your dr. hasnt already should be giving you an exam to check your cervix by 39 weeks.

once you start feeling the tightening of contractions that are 4-5 minutes apart and last from 45-60 seconds and are in that consistant pattern for at least an hour, go to the hospital...

good luck,,,im 38 weeks too and having the same aches and pains you are....i want the contractions to start or for my water to break!!!

Hiya, Sounds as though you could well be in labour, have a warm bath, remember to keep mobile as much as you can as gravity works best for you and babs, the baby will start dropping down and you will probbably have a little more pressure down below!! I got on all fours on the floor and swayed back and forth and side to side and this seemed to ease the cramping and pain!! Good luck chick and dont forget listen to the midwives, they know best and your babba will be with you in no time at all!! Loves and hugs to you and yours xxx

Braxton Hicks Contractions! Which is good for you because it means your body is getting ready for labor. Drink lots of water and rest. The big day is not going to be that far off!!

Good luck to you and congrats! Being a mommy is the most awesome thing ever!

it could be...have you asked your doctor. he might bring you in for a check up to see what is going on or have you take it easy for a couple days (like bed rest) to see if it goes away. I have had a few friends that has had back labor where all the pain is in the back and it started a few days before she had the baby.

but its best to call your doc to see what he says.

possibly braxton hicks, but you are very close to giving birth so i would watch your pains closely. if they are not constant watch the times. time how far apart they are. also maybe call your doc and let them know how you are feeling. they will be able to tell you what to do and if you are in fact having contractions. you will not see a flood of water so don't worry, my water broke and it was like i was peeing in my pants forever!! if you are worried though i would call your doc for reassurance.
