I would suppose that acting lessons are helpful, but there have been cases of people who have never had acting lessons and have made it into movies.
Not sure which venue you are pursuing, but if it is theater, you definitely need some acting lessons. If it is TV, movies, Id suggest you try to do some "extra" work first to get yourself acclamated to what it entails as an actor. I also suggest you join a group like SAG which will increase your chances of getting picked, or called back.
Remember, never pay for services up front promising you parts. These are all scams.
Good luck and Break a leg!! ;)

I would suggest that you find a reputable acting teacher in your locality and if there's one available, join a local theatre company. Acting takes some work. You'll have to learn how to analyze a script, find the reasoning of the character and learn how to pursue an objective. There are no shortcuts.

A flair for drama and the ability to portray different emotions and recite lines as if you were saying them rather than just reading them and the ability to memorize lines.

I recommend you read 'An Actor Prepares' by Constantin Stanislavski. It's very helpful. Try asking for it for Christmas and good luck :D
