My 'boss' (I'm not really being paid) is horrible. She steals my ideas, puts me down, ignores me when I have a problem then gets mad at me when I can't fix the problem.

For example: yesterday she couldn't find a garment (for costuming) she was looking for (as always, it is so unorganized) and I suggested we separate them into used and unused piles to make it easier. She picked one thing up, dropped it on the floor, picked up another dropped it on the floor and continued untill she found what she was looking for. Then she stepped on top of the pile of clothes and walked away to get it fitted for someone.

How does one deal with such a boss without snapping and punching said boss? I'm about ready to. My theatre arts teacher won't let me quit because I know what I am doing. Heck, I write essays on costuming in my spare time for fun! Luckily our first performance is tonight and everything is almost over!

Believe me, this is not your problem, it's her problem. Life is full of people just like her.

Complete your obligation to her and the performance, and move on.

When it's time to move on, sit down with her away from the hustle and bustle and explain why. Offer to help her organize the costumes, then do so.

Try to leave everything a little better than when you found it.

You know how they say "bide your time." I'm sure other people realize you're the one with the brains. She doesn't know how to come up with clever ideas on her own.

But what you have to realize is that some people are so horrible that no one will ever say anything to them. So some people are saying eventually she'll get fired, it may not happen. The only person to speak to her about how she treats you...is you. If you're expecting others to tell her how to treat you, they won't and so far haven't done it. It's up to you.

If you want to confront her, I suggest you do it in front of people especially if you tell her about stealing your ideas, then people will recognize that you were the smart one. Good luck and I hope the performance is a success! Cheers!

To start, why are you working for her? If at all possible leave. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.

If you cant that best way to deal with a boss like this is to think of what ever is really important to you. Whenever, something happens like this, focus on that.

For me it is my family, nothing can happen to take that away from me. When my boss acts like this, I just remember good times with my family until I numb out.

Another way to deal with this is to confront her. This is a little harder, I know, but most people will break when confronted. It is really funny. People will treat you like **** if you let them. If you were to just simply bring to her attention (professionally) how she is acting, she should be embarrassed. (Ex. Say to your boss firmly, not aggressively but firmly. "I am willing to work hard for you, but do not deserve to be treated like this." With the example that you gave about the costumes, just don't pick them up. Wait until she says something and then confront her.) If this does not work - Numb Out. If you numb out, it can actually work wonders. She may thrive on the fact that she upsets you. If she can not upset you, it may upset herself.

Good Luck!

If this b*tch gets what she deserves in the end for being unprofessional and disorganized (getting fired, I mean!), you just might have her job! The teacher even gave what was short of a compliment: "[you] know what [you] are doing".

She won't last...
