When will Earth host 10 billion people?

I book I read last year said the Earth will eventually reach about 12 billlion people! The book is cited below, and I believe the author got his data from the UN. If I remember right, we should hit 10 billion by 2050 or so. Scary!

I don't think we'll hit 10 billion. I think nature's gonna deal humanity a blow before we do.
