I registered for so many things I needed and everyone bought outfits that she either never fit into or were the wrong season...great intentions but then I just had to go return them and buy the things I really needed :)

Most people buy new babies new babies stuff - usually only last for the first 2 to 3 months - I always buy diapers for after that - once they are bigger, and same with clothes - also I buy a few bottles of washing detergent that is specifically for babies - can't remember what it is called.
I have been thanked many times for this - the baby will be in diapers for quite a while.
Good luck!

There really isn't a perfect gift. Just as long as you know it will benefit the baby when it's born then that's what you get. Unless the parent's ask you for something specific, then get that.

Something that is practical that my friend always gives at baby showers is a baby toothbrush and teething kit. I thought it was cute and very thoughful becuase I never would have thought of that and how useful!

Diapers and wipes. And I suggest not buying newborn size diapers. I generally buy size one or size two along with a box of wipes. That was my favorite gift when I had my daughter!

i like to get the practical stuff....stuff that they will use on a daily basis....

for my friends shower last month i got her the hamper she registered for and filled it with things like: hangers, onsies, socks, butt paste, teething rings, baby shampoo, wipes, diapers, blankets, towels and washclothes...

another good idea is getting a tummy time mat....a lot of people register for them but people who dont have kids dont know the significance of them....they are very important for the growth of your baby (in my opinion of course!)

Something practical, useful and of course easy to clean and long-lasting. Receiving blankets and onesies and baby hooded towels are great examples of this.
