Are you thinking of "tovarich"? If so, it's not a greeting but a title for a person. It means "comrade," and was the acceptable title for all people in the old USSR.

"Strazvuitye" (or, the more familiar "strazvui" to your close friends and family) means "hello."

The standard Russian greeting is здравствулте , which would transliterate zdravstvultye. The previous poster gave a closer version of its pronunciation.

The "CH" sound in Russian is made with the letter Ш. I don't know of any greeting that uses that letter.
