When blood gets old it goes brown. If you scrape your knee the blood is red, but then the scab is brown - same thing.

It is due to old blood. It's basically the old remaing blood that is a browning color and vaginal discharge that is left.

The brown discharge you’re describing sounds like the very end of some menstrual periods, when there may be just a tiny bit of blood still leaving the uterus. It takes longer for this blood to leave the body, so there is time for a chemical process known as “oxidation” to turn the red color to brown. This blood may also be mixed in with the normal vaginal discharge. There may even be an odor to it.

This is very normal.

Once the cells have ceased to be supplied by fresh blood from your body, they lose their oxygenation which is what causes blood to be red. When blood dries, it turns reddish brown. It also turns reddish brown as the period ends for the same reason.

It's old uterine (?) lining and old blood, thus the brown color. Oh lord, I love our bodies.

Edit: Okay, maybe it has something to do with oxygen like they said. I hate seeing all the other answers to a question and then finding out I may very well be wrong.

Because it's evacuating old blood, sometimes left over from your previous period. Tampons r usually the culprit for this.

it's old blood. believe it or not, the contractions of the walls of the uterus caused by orgasms actually help it shed its lining, as well as relieve pre menstraul cramps.
