Do women that have Caserean sections still dilate? Do they still have contractions and the urge to push? =-) Thanks dearies!

All right, I had to add some MORE details because I wasn't getting what I wanted! I know, understand, and comprehend that women are capable of dilating and having contractions PRIOR to a c-section. What I want to know is DURING the pregnancy, I wondered if the body still had the urge to push the baby out. Because if you think about it, mother nature won't allow a mother to NOT push the baby out, it would happen regardless of whether the mother chose to puse or not.

Wow, thanks guys! =-)

During the surgery no, not at all, you're numbed totally from the chest down and all you feel is some pulling sensations and some pressure, but if you're in labor before the C-section, you would then.

Edit after you added details: The answer is no. During a C-section a woman would not feel contractions or the urge to push because they can't feel anything below the chest.

Not necessarily. I was completely dialated and completely efaced with my son and never at any point or time felt like I had to push. He was not even in the birth canal so I had nothing to push. After about 3 hours of that excruitiating pain they finally took me in for an emergency c-section. I had to be knocked out because my epidural wore off after that emense pain and they foudn out he had turned during a contraction and was breech. So no not all women that have a c-section experience labor but some do. I was going through contractions and everything while laying on the table waiting for them to knock me out and start. Nothing worse than having contractions that bad and not being able to move because you are strapped down to a tiny little table.

Well it depends. I had to have a c-section because I had high blood pressure and they decided it was healthier for the baby to come out. So I had my daughter at 8months, I wasn't in labor and I did not dilate. But everyone's body is different. I didn't feel any contractions, so I was kind of lucky.

I had two C-sections, the first I was scheduled for one on Friday (breech baby) but went into labor the Sunday before...I was 2 cm dilated with strong contractions so they went ahead and did the c-section that day.

With my second I had contractions and several false alarms (we were trying for a VBAC) and I was 2 cm dilated for two weeks but circumstances didn't allow for it and I ended up having to have another scheduled c-section.

Hope this answers any questions for you :)

Yes, most do. Cesaerians are usually necessary, because baby is not coming down properly or because the mother is not dilating fast enough to compensate for the birth. In other cases, such as myself, a baby may be breech. In my case, I didn't dilate much at all. The doctor checked my daughter's position, found her to be breech and gave me a c-section. So it depends.

Yes, yes, yes if you happen to go into labor. If you have a scheduled C-Section and don't go into labor before the schedule date you shouldn't contract, dilate or have the urge to push.

7 years ago they induced me until i was 7cm then they decided to do a c-section. It took them 22 minutes to cut me open, take the baby out and sew me back up. No urges to push or anything because I was numb.

oh yes... they do a c-section if you aren't dilating quick enough, if the baby is in "danger", or if it is breech... and many other reasons!
