I went to the Bristol Farms grocery store at Westfield Shopping Center, and the produce were very fresh and expensive. Is there any cheap grocery store that sells fresh produce? Thanks.

I know, Berkeley Bowl is in Berkeley, not San Francisco...it is only a short BART ride away and I swear that this place is a produce museum. Prices are very reasonable. Wait until you see the tomato aisle (that's right...aisle). Then move over to the mushroom aisle...

In San Francisco perhaps Rainbow grocery strikes a good balance between selection and price. No comparison to Berkeley bowl however.

I always liked going to the small markets along Irvine in the Sunset area above 19th St. Lots of good fresh produce and for really great prices.

you might also try the ferry building. They have some great food purveyors there.
