I think it is so wrong, can you imagine someone seriously ill or you had to rush to A & E and you missed the last few minutes of someones life because you were to busy trying to find change to put in the pay and display.....

If they need to charge to help them out with cost it should be a ticket upon entrance system, because sometimes you have no idea how long you are going to be staying for.....

A bit of common sense hey, surely with the revenue made they can employ a carpark attendant to take the money owing

Most Hospitals are located within a city. If they were free Commuters would grab all the parking spaces. Our local nhs charges a £1 for 7 hours, exceed this and they charge you £80. Some sad people do actually park in hospital car parks then go off to do their shopping etc, leaving no room to park for visitors to visit their ill relations. If you are escorting someone to hospital to book them in, you can claim the parking charge back. As for prisons, maybe it is some government rule. It is in there best interests to ensure visiting is as stress free as possible to avoid winding the inmates up. Thank you for a very interestin question :) regards...

I don't know about prison parking, but charging for hospital parking is a thinly disguised tax. Yes, its true some people use hospital car parks when shopping or going to the local train station etc etc, but it would not be beyond the ken of hospital management who find their car parks used by shoppers, commuters etc to charge on entry and then refund if the visit was to the local hospital. All of the hospitals I have visited recently would not be used by shoppers or commuters, but they still charge. Charges aren't even on a cost recovery basis either - they are intended to generate a surplus.

Not every hospital you have to pay to park your car. In fact every one I've been too except for Boston, I didn't have to pay.

Anyways, for the prison issue, you have to lock your car, the COs can search your car and you get to go through a metal detectors.

Our tax money is used by prison facilities, and our tax money is not used for hospitals. There is a lot of political issues going on behind the scenes that most people have no clue about. I disagree with much of the way the Judaical system is misusing our tax money. There are better ways to use our money appropriately and to have people not only pay for their crimes, but learn from them!

My husband is in the prison for past drug use as a teenager. You would be amazed how our tax money is being misused in the prison systems! I had no idea how things worked until my husband went to prison! Believe me, I thought I did!

If you are visiting a patient, somebody in your family, it stinks. I will park 5 blocks away (and have done so) if I have to to avoid paying. I have had 3 people seriousl ill for long periods in the last 2 years, and paying for parking could have cost me close to $300 for the time they were in hospital. I do think parking at hospitals should be pay-per-space for casual visitors, people coming to clinics, etc, but free passes should be available for the immediate family, or close contacts, of any patients in a hospital ward more than 4 days, or from the first day for immediate family or close contacts of any patient in ICU or in emergency surgery.

It is horrible... i just spend a fortune on that. But i recon that where prisons are located the parking is not in such a demand as near hospitals. Hospitals take care for 300.000 people in average and I believe it is more than in prisons. Visits to the hospital are more frequent than in prisons. And above of that it is a profit out of our pocket together with under qualified doctors prescribing paracetamol, horrible dirt in a waiting rooms ext...

That's the NHS for you. Not only do you have to pay to park your car when you visit the hospital the one my wife works at charges staff the same rate to park their cars when they go to work.

This is a bloody disgrace, it amounts to a tax on the sick in that they rely on visitors to maintain their morale,a very important factor in a patient's recovery.
In addition, the reason why people need to use a car to visit is down to the centralisation of hospital facilities.
This means that people have to travel much further than used to be the case and public transport provision is very poor.
