I'm answering this as a divorced female. I am 41 years old and have three teenaged daughters from my 18-year marriage. I thought, when I got married, that it was the thing to do. I think I actually believed that it would keep him faithful and that I would have my perfect little family and live happily ever after.

Now I am engaged to a lovely and generous man. I don't have to get married - I'm done having children, I can support myself and my household and I am absolutely sure that we will be together for the rest of our lives (faithfully). I'm going to get married only because I love him truly and I want to share his name. It WILL benefit us financially because of taxes and insurance, etc.., but the main reason is just because I want to be a part of him and we want to show family and friends what a truly loving and healthy marriage looks like - that's it.

So, the wrong reasons to marry?

For children.
For financial stability.
Not to have to work.
For sex.
Because someone else wants you to.
Because you don't know what else to do with your life.
Not to be lonely.
To have someone to pick up after you and feed you.
Because society says you should.
For security.
To assure fidelity.
Just to be a "bride".
Because you are afraid to be on your own.

Well it really deppends on what type of person you are and who you're getting married too. Marriage can be very helpful in a relationship if you want to be with that person for the rest of your life. But in some cases marriage can ruin the relationship forever. You know when it comes to things like this. Hope you get your answer though.
Love,
Alexis

Mainly tax purposes. Cheaper legally to be married. Also it impresses family and friends, which is about the only reason to do it. Also, insecure people believe marriage will solve problems/keep their spouse faithful.

Marrige is the unlimate expression of your undying love for another person. Your commitment to 'have their back' NO MATTER WHAT. It isn't nessasary, however it means a great deal to some people to express this kind of love to their partner. It should only be carried through if it is absolutly what you want.

It is the ultimate sacrifice it is telling someone that you are willing to spend the rest of your life growing and loving each other, that is why it should not be entered into lightly.

You will know if you want it. It is like anything don't do it unless it is something you crave or desire. Life is about achieving those things that we want.
