More often than not, it is found to have something to do with politics and ethnic contrasting traditions. However, some are more vested in greed for influence and power. Sadly, it is the poor innocent followers who suffers from the hands of the deceivers.

It's a mix of politics, mainly. The Iraq war exacerbated it, but they do generally get along worldwide, and have plenty in common; they both follow Islam. Sunnis and Shi'ites can and often do pray together in America.
