I don't know why you'd want to, it's the best instant messenger..

You're likely getting it confused with Windows Messenger (msmsgs.exe) that's bundled with some versions of XP.

You can remove msmsgs in the Services manager (computer admin) but as for MSN you can just uninstall it from the Start menu or the Add / Remove Programs dialog.

If you still have a messenger appearing at the bottom, it must be Windows messenger. They look the same and that one comes with Windows. You can remove it form Add/Remove Programs from the Contol Panel and go in Components.

I think what you are referring to is Windows Messenger and NOT MSN messenger. Contrary to popular belief they are actually two seperate applications. There are many steps you can take to disable it completely. It first needs to be removed from your add/remove programs under add/remove windows components. I've included a link to help get rid of it completely but be careful when editing the windows registry.

Messenger sets itself to automatically start with windows. If you log in to it there should be a setting in options to prevent this (uncheck start automatically with windows). this is the similar in most messaging applications ie MSN, yahoo, Skype etc

If you want to remove it completely this can be done using XP-Antispy http://www.xp-antispy.org/. This will remove the version that comes preinstalled with windows.

if you have removed msn messenger then it is windows messenger you see coming up, they are two completely different programmes, you need to go to add/remove programs and go into windows components and disable it from there

Many of my friends have suffered from this nasty virus, the best way we have found is to either roll back your computer to an earlier date before the virus started or most drastic is do a complete reinstall of windows

I do not recommend Uninstalling. Better to simply stop it from loading.

Start->Run->msconfig->Services Uncheck Messenger
