I would tie them on the top. If you tie them at the bottom, the top will fall down on the baby's face.
Good Luck!

Make sure the strings from the ties are facing outward and arent in the crib. With my son he use to flip the bumper up and I would find him sleeping with bumper over his face because I had tied it at the top only. I had to sew on ties on the bottom of the bumper so he couldnt get up underneath it. That might work for you too. Good Luck

It is actually suggested that you don't use bumpers with a newborn to reduce the chances of sids. If you really want a bumper for fear of the baby getting an arm or leg stuck in between the cracks, I would suggest a breathable bumber. You can find them at amazon.com which partners with babies R us.

I would say the top so they dont fall down and suffocate the baby! Usually they come with two ties though, one on bottom and one to tie on top so you might want to check that you didn't get faulty ones. If you are good at sewing, you could also sew on another two ties just to give you a peace of mind.

From what I have heard you should not use crib bumbers at all apparently they increase the risk of SIDS along with any other bedding in the crib I did not start using bumpers until my daughter was one.

Do not use bumper pads, they reduce the circulation of air in your baby's crib thus making the risk of SIDS higher. Newborns don't roll around in their sleep enough to need them anyways. My son is almost 7 months and he has never had them in his crib, and he wont because once he is able to pull himself up they're just something for him to step on to help him get himself out of his crib!

They go along the mattress, towards the bottom of the crib. They should be places around the edges, and tied in one corner, so the baby doesn't hit its head.

The safest thing is to not use crib bumpers. They're so cute...I know...but they increase the chance that your baby could suffocate.
Sorry!

I didn't use mine in the crib for safety reasons. I tacked mine on the wall like you would a border. If you were to use it, the ties go at the top.

There not really safe at all, Newborns don't roll around in cribs where they would need one, it just looks nice.
