People who deny evolution do not understand the theory or scientific method in general. The evidence for evolution is overwhelming, while the evidence for creationism is non-existent.
For anyone who doesn't believe in evolution I recommend you read "The Ancestor's Tale" by Richard Dawkins. It is a fantastic book that explains evolutionary theory in concise, easy to read language.

People deny evolution for these reasons:
1. Out of a desire to be special and distinct from the animals. (The Bible has the creation of Adam as a special event).
2. People want to fit in and believe as their parents/society believes.
3. People are spiritual. Some are more spiritual than logical.
4. God is cool.

By the way, we did indeed evolve from monkeys. If I showed you a picture of the ancestor we have in common with modern old world monkeys, you'd point at it and say, "That's a monkey."

Well i don't think we should teach creation or religion in school or along with science like Evolution (in biology classroom). First because we would have to teach many many of the world's religion too because in the classroom of the united states there are many students who come from different background and religions, not just christianity.
And when we teach all or major religion in school it will reduce the amount of time to teach other subsubjects of biology such as cell biology, genetics, ecology, physiology etc... (creationism is not science because it doesn't have scientific experiements for their hypothesis. It's just a cultural belief that had passed down by folk tells).
If however the creationists want to teach creation in school, then it must teach in a different course or subject rather than in biology or science classes. The schools can offer a class called "world religions" where in that class students can learn all about the different religions not just any particular one. (this is fair to all students who come from many different cultures and backgrounds in USA rather than being unfair and only teach christianity, as it is not the only view and belief that people have).
I think one of the main reasons why some religious groups deny evolution is because they don't understand much about "evolution". They don't investigate or learn for themselves about what "evolution really is" and examine "the evidences" thoroughly. This is because they're not interested in the first place.
I consider myself to be a religious person but I am not against evolution. Because I don't find evolution threatens my beliefs anyhow. I have a BS. in Zoology and is doing my Secondary Science Teaching Certification.
As i have stated in other posts, that evolution doesn't claim upon the origin of life, but it only argues that life had changed since its origin.

I think that it mostly stems from fear of losing something that has been taught to people most of their lives. The thought of not seeing a loved after they die. The thought of dying ourselves can be pretty scary. It is also a political tool.
Evolution aims to debunk the theory of creationism unintentionally.
This would mean that god did not exist or he did not exist in the way that they think he exist. That we can from a simpler species and gradually evolved over time. Someone also needs to explain mitochondria because they have their own DNA and RNA. Why would that be necessary if our own cells have millions of instructions?
Me I am an atheist. I think that if god exist he will understand that it is hard for me to buy into religion when people use it as a tool to control the masses. I think it would be nice to think of a much more peaceful life after death but, I don't think it exist.

There are two types of evolution: macro-evolution (which is the controversial one) and micro-evolution. What you are talking about is micro-evolution, small changes in a population over a few generations, and I doubt that many people would argue that it does not occur since we can see it occur in a relatively short period of time.
Macro-evolution is the "Theory of Evolution" that most people refer to when they say evolution. Macro-evolution is the hypothesis that life was created from the primordial soup and that indeed humans evolved from monkeys. Though many people would argue with me, there is very little REAL evidence to support this hypothesis.

The better question is why don't schools teach intelligent design too? It is irresponsible to not teach both. I think that the Theory of Evolution is valid, but it does not prove that any species came about by evolving from a different species. I believe that everything was created by the Highest Power AND all things evolve through change and time. It comes down to the fact that science and religion are not as different as may you think. Most beliefs and theories in religion and science are based on faith. If not, we would call it the "Law of Evolution".

Well first of all, people or creatures do not evolve. Populations evolve through time based on beneficial mutations in certain individuals inside that group. This is pure fact. To test it get a bowl of white rice and some white and green jelly beans. Put them together and suppose they are a population of certain animal. Imagine you are the predator, killing the poor beans. Which are you more likely to see fairly easy and eat? The green ones cause they stick out more than their fellow white bean friends. Therefore the population will "evolve" into being white.
The problem is that the theory of evolution (not just evolution) states that you came from something with no live to something living just because of luck. It doesnt just say that things change over time. It says you evolved from nothing into what you are today.
BTW, I dont believe in evolution and you really don't need it to understand other sciences. I haven't used the theory of evolution and i have an M.S....go figure

I agree with you, unfortuately a lot of the world is brainwashed by what religious leaders tell them. I myself am a religious person, but still believe in basic science. People deny evolution because they are scared that science will overrule religion, which will never happen becasue religion is so important to a lot of people, some people just need to be more open minded

Some are mentally lazy, and will take the explanation that doesn't require thought.
Some don't realize that "Scientific" Creationism was just a political doctrine to put religion in schools. They just hear what they want to hear.
The worst group are the scam artists who bilk Christians out of millions of dollars using a combination of quote mining, pseudoscientific jargon, and outright lies to sell books and get donations.

They deny evolution because they have been brainwashed by religion! Totally stupid if it is not taught in schools.
