One of my friends asked me why it was ok for a man to sleep around and not ok for women. Men get called studs and players yet women get called s_luts, hos etc. Then it occured to me...I've never been called any of these names by men. It's other women who pass judgement. Before I was married, I was a bit wild and had quite a lot of...fun. I was always careful though, always used protection. I don't think what I did was terrible, I was young, free and single and lived for the moment. The stick I got from other women was dreadful. Also, why if a girl is slim do other women label her anorexic? If a girl is pretty, she's a bitc h, if she gets a good job it's cos she slept her way to the top. Why do we see every other woman as competition? I'm not saying that all women are like this, I know I'm not. I just think sometimes we're our own worst critics.

Like I keep saying, women set the standards for their gender and themselves, yet they keep blaming the men because they don't want to take personal responsibility for it.
And they say men are competitive. Geez.

Believe me, these men were probably saying the same things, just not to the person's face. I've been around guys talking about promiscuous chicks and it can get pretty brutal. Anyhow, women, on average, tend to be catty and more competitive, probably because of the lack of available good men. Most of the men who are worth anything are already married or attached, and women know this so they try to break eachother down. Of course, low self-esteem also plays a role in this too. And women who are very prudent and religous would also have negative things to say about a woman who is comfortable with being sexual.

I don't want to anger anyone here but you are absolutely right. Women are evil to each other - and men quite frankly don't care. My theory is this - men (originally the "hunter gatherers") developed a sense of kinship w/ each other in order to survive. We are "tribal" minded. That's why we are always out in groups and such and never ever say something like - you're going to wear that?! Women on the other hand (originally the house keeper/child rearer) were more alone. If anything, early women saw other women as a clear threat to their man, their home, their children - etc. So I think over time they developed "skills" to keep other women at bay whereas men developed "skills" to keep other men close. Like a survival thing. Why you women do it to yourselves now I don't know. My wife always says she wishes she had friendships like those between me and my guy friends with her girl friends. She doesn't even have a best friend. I feel like I can't get rid of my best friends if I tried. I really don't know what the truth is but that is my "semi" educated hunch. Maybe in time things will change. Don't be mean to your sisters eh?

Living in a patriarchal society can seen as the root cause for the double standard associated with sexual promiscuity. Society seems to place unfair pressure on women when sex is the topic. I am not a feminist, but I do believe in equality. Why should a woman be expected to remain a virgin until marriage, while we as a society egg her on to "shake it," "get loose" and let the good times roll? I believe that sex is something we all partake in, so why should someones gender determine if something like sex is good or bad?
That being said, women probably are harsher critics than men because they are more expressive of emotions and more public in their display. Also, they may feel a higher sense of connection with the standard set for women as they live with it everyday. Those women who criticize others may feel they have "more of a right" to openly criticize because when faced with similar circumstances they choose not to be promiscuous and live up to the socially accepted idea that women are the gate keepers of sex and men are just horn-balls.
There is no one answer to your question. Female promiscuity is something that is more sexually acceptable but a double standard still exists between what is "acceptable" for men as opposed to women in society. I guess it is best to just do what makes you happy and not give a rat about what people think.

Well, the answers obvious. They're jealous! OR maybe, they have insecurity issues and want to put others down so that they can feel better about their own crappy selves. Don't let anyone get to you.
