And what are your goals? The "invest" tells me you want something for the long run, but that question is usually intended for a speculation, a short-term, trading tip.

Costco (COST) rose because of good sales and earnings figures. How long will that last, a week, a day, an hour? Who knows, but there is a good company with good earnings and good news, so for a time it has a good prospect, unless there is a bad Christmas sales report--which is another thing, retailers lose after the end of the year because so much of their business is 4th quarter stuff. It is also a little above $54, so what is expensive to you?

Nuance Communications (NUAN) is only about $11.70 and has good news and good prospects that are longer reaching. Still, tech companies have enormous competition and their nitche edge may disappear in the future. So, it is probably not a buy and forget it "investment".

Goldman Sachs (GS) is an old profitable firm that just made another boatload of money based on their last earnings report, but they sell for about $200, which even for me sounds pretty darned expensive, yet for the long run it might be good.

If it were a couple of weeks ago, I would have said Netopia (NTPA), but its in a buy-out and you (not me) missed the big rush to bid it up.

May I suggest EGY (Vaalco Energy)? It is a little below $8, but really good growth and profit numbers. Look that one over really good, okay? (Caution, the trend is down so don't look for immediate results)

It depends on what you mean by not expensive. In investing the price is not what makes it expensive. You must see if it is worth what you are paying. Do you mean not expensive as in under $20 or not expensive as in it is trading at a good multiple?

Penny stocks are way too risky if all you have is a couple of bucks to get some. The commission alone will eat up any gains, if any.

If you want to invest small dollar amounts regularly, open a brokerage account that allows dollar cost average (DCA) invest in a stock that will let you DCA or DRIP. This lets you invest a certain amount every month & buy fractional shares.

I have been buying Energy Conversion Devices, symbol ENER. They make solar panels, batteries for hybrids, and a new type of computer memory. Here is a link summarizing their business:

I like Del Monte.

They have a good management team, good cash flow, P/E is attractive. Unfortunately, the stock hasn't tracked as well as the S&P since I bought it several months ago, but it's still well positive and I expect it to go way up in the next several years.

I like Western Union too, but waiting for a better entry point.
