you have to have another line run to your breaker box. you can't just tie in to the existing one. it would pull too much current for the existing wires to handle. it would also violate the law. if you own your own home it is legal to do the work yourself, but some cities have laws requiring you to have an electrician to do it for you. you can pick up a book about home wiring for about $20. it should show you how to do it. i'd at least read about what's involved before taking on the job yourself. in the long run, you'd probably be better off having a professional do it. if you make a mistake, it could burn your house down.

If this is a 220 volt outlet it will have two hot lines connected to it. These are actually two 110 volt lines which are 90 degrees out of phase. You could take each of these hot lines and wire them to two separate outlets of 110 volts each. You should also change the 220 volt breaker with two 110 breakers.

If it is a single 110 volt outlet you could pig tail the hot line and add a second outlet on the same breaker.

If you don't understand what I'm saying or otherwise are not confident in what you are doing, please hire an electrician. 220 volts is sufficient to kill a full grown person - so, by all means, be careful.
