I keep hearing different time frames for the length that sperm can survive - I have read (in medical journals) anywhere from 3-6 days. Someone else just said 9...what gives? I know there are optimal and not so optimal conditions, but I'm wondering, because it's important to know.

Velken, you're self-absorbed, assuming IDIOT. Nobody said anything about different fathers or anything like that. I can't STAND people like you...walking around staring down their noses at others and ASSuming sh*t that just isn't true, all because you choose to believe some lie you've told yourself. Get real.

In the proper environment, such as the female reproductive tract beyond the cervix, sperm have a life-span of up to five days. In other environments, such as the vagina, sperm live only a few hours and even less than that outside the human body, exposed to the open air. The egg, on the other hand, has a life-span of only about twenty-four hours from the time it bursts from the ovary. So, fertilization can occur anytime live sperm meet up with a live egg, which can happen even if the sperm are deposited up to five days in advance of ovulation.

3-6 days is right. ALWAYS believe the medical journals over any thing you read here. Just a good rule to live by.

Sperm ejaculated into a woman's vagina remain alive in the mucus of the cervix and are able to fertilize an egg for three to five days. Sperm ejaculated outside the body usually live only a few hours.

No more than 7 days. Most don't survive past 3, but 7 is the latest I believe. Not to sound harsh, but next time try waiting a bit longer before being intimate with a different guy. You, the guy, and the baby all deserve to know who daddy is without all the questions.

When a man ejaculates inside of you they can only live for up to 72 hours unless they catch the egg. They can live in the mans body much much longer. 9 days is rediculous.
