Breastfeeding helps in a lot of ways - it helps your uterus to contract back to it normal size faster. It also helps with weight loss (but don't expect the weight loss to happen overnight - it took 9 months to get to the point you are now, and it'll take time to get back to "normal"), as your body is always working - producing all the nutrients to put in the milk to feed your baby. Just remember to eat healthy - whatever you eat/drink, so does your baby. And as soon as your doc says you're ready, start SLOWLY into an exercise routine - even though at first you'll feel too tired, it'll actually help to give you more energy in the long run!

breastfeeding helps your uterus get back to it's smaller normal size a lot faster then not breastfeeding. as for the weight loss...it depends on the person, actually when breastfeeding, you may still gain weight or stay at the same weight, because your body still needs all that nutrients for your baby's milk, and for your own. you still need the pounds to keep up with milk production.
sorry if that answer was all over the place. i suggest walking and staying as active as you can.

Yes, you burn 500 calories a day just by breastfeeding alone! I gained 60lbs with my pregnancy, lost 35lbs before I even left the hospital and lost 20 more lbs the first 2 weeks I was home. The last 5lbs I lost more gradually. But it's great because it's the best thing for your baby and it also helps you get back to your pre-pregnancy weight! (in my experience anyways)

Yes. It has been scientifically proven that your body stores extra fat for milk preserves for the baby, after it's born. So as you are breastfeeding your body is canabalizing the fat for nutrients for the baby and giving you your shape back in half the time you would lose the fat if you ran 8 miles a day.

It does burn calories, but it's not a guarantee. My second baby was the first I bfed, and I didn't lost any weight with that. My third I also bfed and the weight just dropped off. I was down past my pre-pregnancy weight before my 6 week check up.

Yes!!! It keeps you uterus contracting, making your tummy smaller shortly after birth. It also helps reduce the flab that most of us new mommies get. My girlfriend breastfed and now she looks better than she did before. I didn't breastfeed and I am still struggling 6 months after to completely lose all the baby weight. You have to remember that it is also very Healthy for your baby and it is the greatest gift you can give to him/her.

Yes, it can make you lose weight. But don't make it a motive of breasfeeding. Breasfeeding is for your BABY, for his/her benefits, for the bond between both of you, etc. Losing weight is just a bonus that comes with it.

I think you burn between 900-1000 calories a day while nursing. That is the best and easiest way to melt away excess baby weight. Not to mention it provides the best nutrients for your baby and the bonding is indescribable. Congrats on your new baby!

Yes, it helped me alot. Breastfeeding also stimulates uterine contractions, so it will shrink your uterus faster. Every little bit helps in getting your body back to normal.
