Nostradamus, like most people who say they can tell the future, was careful to keep his predictions as fuzzy and flexible as possible. Thus you can apply his predictions to multiple historic events which reduces his credibility. I would not worry about when the world is going to end.

But, by asking the question you show yourself to have a healthy dose of curiosity. I suggest you check out the Skeptical Inquirer. A 'zine (and website) that takes on various mysteries and looks for rational explanations.

Another source you might find fun is Penn and Teller's Showtime series, Bullshit (http://www.sho.com/site/ptbs/home.do) They did a show on Nostradamus. A must see for end of the world fans like yourself

The prediction that he made are very vague and open to interpretation. He never gave dates it was always couched in phrases that could not be nailed down like "The year of the big seven." That is how this sort of thing works. As long as you leave it vague, the people that want to believe will find a way to interpret it so that it works out. Then when the date comes and goes they come up with a new interpretation to show that it is still further into the future. The same way horoscopes could apply to just about anybody if you read them without looking at which sign they are supposed to be talking about.

Well he "predicted" the end of the world. Problem is that his "predictions" are so vague that you can put anything into it. Makes people believe that he really predicted stuff when he didn't. People stretch the truth into his verses.
