My sister delivered both of her babies 2 weeks late. It all worked out fine, but yes, they were bigger babies.

But it sounds like you are going into labor very very soon on your own, so you probably won't need to be induced. Hang in there! You are in the home stretch. Good luck!

Hi there,
Normal time to induce is between 38-42 weeks of pregnancy. Your doctor may just want to make sure the baby is as developed as it can be... If your baby was too big they would know that by now and maybe induce you sooner as they did with me. I was induced 2 weeks before my daughter was born because they knew she was going to be big. She weighed 9 Lbs. 9 Oz. SO... The doctor was right. About the bloody show, you can have bloody show for a week even. Your contractions should be 2 - 3 minutes apart for the hospital to admit you otherwise, it's not active labor and they will probably send you home. Unless your water "Has broken" they will not keep you there. Hope this helps some. Good luck and congratulations

Thn you probably won't need to be induced. 80% effaced is good and as long as your contractions keep comming then you'll dialate more. If you don't want a huge baby then do things yourself to get it moving along. I was born at 42 weeks and I was 9 lbs 11 oz. That's a big baby. Try drinking the casrol oil mixed with juice, try pumping your breasts every 15 minutes for 5 minutes each breast, have lots of sex, if sex isn't possable then go for a long walk but bring someone or a cell phone with you.

I had my first child at 43 weeks and she was only 7 pounds. The doctor may just be waiting for you to have him/her on your own. The way it sounds you should go anytime now. As far as being too big, it is unlikely. If they thought the baby was gonna be bigger then normal they would tell you. Try walking, or having sex to get the dilation going a bit faster. Biggest of all though is not to stress. You are gonna have a little one soon! Trust me you do not want to be induced if you can go into labor on your own. The medicine they give you makes the contractions stronger. So stay calm is the best advice I can give you and good luck,
Congrats!!!!

Any pregnancy is give or take 2 weeks...42 weeks is perfectly safe. a baby only gains 1/2 a pound per week anyways.

from my understanding, anytime a pregnancy is induced there is a risk of complications. from what it sounds like, its quite possible you will go into labor without having to be induced. your doctor is only doing what he thinks is best. i'd just relax :)

i carried my son for almost 43 weeks because my body wasnt showing any signs of going into labor. i had efaced about 50% but it just stopped there. he didnt want to induce me because my body obviously wasnt ready, and my doctor was afraid it would be a long painful labor resulting in a c section.
