I have the same sort of dreams. It's like having dejavu but I dream about the incident long before... Kinda creepy.

A premontion is a vision or a dream that you may have that gives you a glimpse into the future or future events. Deja Vu is having an experience that you believe you been there and done that same thing. Most deja vu I could say could be contributed to actually doing that same thing or being in that same place long before and you are simply subconciously aware of it. With premonitions, I tend to have dreams about normal everyday actions and a few weeks to a month later I'll be doing that exact thing. It feels like deja vu to me, and then I realize I had a dream about it. So who knows. The mind is a very complex thing. Imagine all we could do and experience if we used more of our brains.

that's a great question by the way. I believe a premonition is a bad/uncomfortable feeling that is vague and doesn't tell the person anything other than a bad feeling something negative is about to happen. Deja Vu on the other hand is a french word and I believe it's a feeling that the exact circumstance, words and actions have been done already. For example you go into a store in a town where you are on vacation, never been there before and you have this feeling that you have been in that store before doing the same thing but you're conscious mind knows you have never been there before, I believe the translation is/or close to "already seen"

A premonition is the feeling that you're experiencing a future event, or at least knowledge of a future event. Deja vu is the feeling that you've been a certain place or done a certain thing before in a situation where that isn't possible, i.e. lunch at a cafe in Paris when you've never been to Paris before.

Your question is interesting to me because the times I've experienced waking premonitions, they had the exact same mental "flavor" as deja vu.

A premonition is knowing what is going to happen through vision or thought - like your dreams. Deja Vu is literally "having been there before."

a Deja vu you get while awake. You see a scene and then you suddenly know what people will do and say . Because you had seen it before. Hence Deja vu. (Seen before)
In dreams we can have premonitions and they should be taken
seriously. Not all dreams are that but after awhile you will know
the difference between a message and just a dream.
Remember not to take it as seen in the dream, in our dreamworld we have a lot of symbols.

The few premonitious dreams I've had have been extremely vivid and emotional. I didn't think anything of them until the event happened and I refer back to the dream. The dreams were symbolic, but there is no doubt in my mind that my subconscious foresaw the event.

Deja vu happens to me when I am in certain places or in situations. For me, the feeling is fleeting. Once I acknowledge that it is deja vu, I don't have the feeling anymore. It's weird. It's kind of like when you wake up and remember a dream but later in the day you forget.

a premonition is a feeling something may happen in the future. Deja vu is a feeling you have experienced the event before and are reliving it. Our dreams are strange in that they can combine what we see, what we want and what we fear. All come out as we sleep. Always is a strong statement. Seldom are dreams 100% accurate.

Oh... I'm always having dreams like that... I think it's premonition, hun, if the dreams are before. If it's after, it's your mind getting over it, as they say. If you've never, ever, ever had even the slightest notion of a similar situation, but it feels familiar, that's deja vu.

That is a premonition. Deja vu is say you walk into a room and you know you have been there before.

premonitions are feeling that something is going to happen, like a thought or dream that you think will one day be true, and deja vu is feeling like something has already happened in the past, which is happening at that particular point in time.
