Check the weekend section of the local newspaper- there should be a lot of New Year's Eve packages available.

Check your local paper- especially the entertainment section. There may be some local celebrations that aren't very expensive.

I live in the Akron, OH area. There is a big "family" celebration every New Year's Eve called First Night. It is also in other cities around the country as well. The tickets (buttons, actually) aren't very expensive ($10 for adults). This gets you into all kinds of venues- concerts, ballet, movies, etc. This is alcohol free. Then, there are fireworks that go off twice- once at 9 pm for the kids, then at midnight for adults. It's quite fun.

If you don't have a First Night in your town, check around to see if there are "parties." One would have to pay for the tickets and maybe for the cash bar.

Otherwise, you may want to do some fun stuff at home or at a friend's house. Bring some munchies and maybe some board games or movies. Enjoy your friends' company and have a safe New Year's Eve.
