This is my first child and I really don't know anything about pregnancy but what i've read. My body is in pain and i'm 38 weeks. I've dilated 1cm and i'm wondering is this good progress or if thats slow progress with me being 2 weeks away from my due date.

That is good progress! Walk and move around more to speed it up. I felt the same way when I was 38 wks. Although it can take days - weeks to dialate further. I was at a 3 for 2 1/2 weeks! Generally, they want to check you into the hospital at about 5 or 6 cm, so they can track you from there. Good luck, and don't worry, it'll only be a little bit longer.

Yes, for 38 wks that is good progress. That means your body is getting ready for labor. But, being 1 cm dilated means nothing sometimes; You can be 1 cm till your due date;
I am 40 wks and 4 days and i have been 2 cm dilated for one week now; The only thing that changed was that my cervix is getting thinner and i have "bloody show" since yesterday. Trust me, i am exhausted to...but we are almost there. Good luck!

Everyone is different, though. You could dilate 2 more cm tonight or not dilate at all until you're 40w. I was 39w5d and I couldn't stand it anymore. My baby was right in my ribcage and I couldn't breathe! My Dr. wanted to induce me so I gave in. I regret that SOO much now. I was induced and after 20 hours of hard labor I was still only dilated to 4cm and it ended in c-section. So, you're doing good, just don't give in. Try and stay relaxed and calm. I know it's hard, but you don't want to be induced, trust me! 1cm is good for 38w. Just remember..that baby HAS to come out eventually. lol Good Luck!!

I was 1 cm dilated from 36 weeks to 38 weeks, I didn't go into labor until I was 39 weeks when my water broke and I was induced. A friend of mine went from 1 cm to 3 cm in a couple of hours and deliver later that day both of us first child. It all depends on your body and how fast it wants to labor.

That's very good progress. With my first, I made it all the way to 40 weeks with NO dilation. My cervix was soft but wouldn't open. That night I went into labor and after 6 hours of labor, I made it to 1cm.

You may be one of those lucky women who makes it to her due date and doesn't have a long labor!

Good luck.

I'm 38 weeks as well and not dilated at all! So you're well ahead of the game! C'mon girlfriend. Just two more weeks and we're there. You can do it!

Good luck!

Lucky you - I'm 40 weeks pregnant and not dilated at all! 1 cm is better than nothing! Good luck and take it easy - you'll need the rest!

ha! you started dilating! this is a good thing. walk, walk walk walk....and stairs lots of stairs. if it starts hurting but you can handle the pain, keep walking, if you can't handle it, stop take a breathe, stand up straight.....once the pain has lowered to where you can handle it, walk some more. if you start feeling contractions (like bad period cramps) keep walking. a little slower, but keep at it. it's your cervix dilating.

i am in my 34th week and i know if i walk more then 10 minutes of stairs i will go into labor. so i won't....not till i hit 36 weeks. and believe me i am counting the minutes. i am so sick of being pregnant.

good luck!!!

yes, that is good progress. you may even stay at 1cm for a few weeks. i did. i was induced with all 3 of mine so i never went into labor by myself. as soon as that pitocin drip went in, i started to dialate.

good luck...don't forget to take something to focus on AND your own pillow!! hospital pillows suck!!

Normally with first children they don't normally come on time so this is good progress for you! Just relax and enjoy this free time that you have.. Good luck to you
