I agree. This is so morbid. I cannot belive the media sensationalising this in such a way. You know that it is being discussed but the news media is beside themselves with glee it seems. I would be furious if i was family. Horrible.

It is terrible that there seems to be more concern over the possible shift in the Senate than how he's doing.
Sadly, though, it is important as the Dems only have the majority by a slim margin and Dick Cheney serves as the tie breaker.
Hopefully though, Sen. Johnson will be okay and make a full recovery. He's relatively young (he'll be 60 come Dec. 28th) and will hopefully be able to enjoy his family and his non-political life.

That someone gets sick is not news. That a senator gets sick is not news. However if a senator getting sick would mean loss of control of the senate for the Democrats that is news.
I like Johnson. Too bad is wan't Kerry or Kennedy that got sick. At least I haven't heard the Democrats blaming the Republicans for trying to poisoning him.

It's just a crying shame! Should he die or is unable to assume power, the the governor of South Dakota may have to appoint another person in his place and call a special election for the vacant seat. (I don't know about this because the situation looks rather complicated.) All of this could have serious repercussions on the newly-won control of the Senate. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next from this point on.

Most likely if his being ill wasn't possibly going to change the balance of power, there would not be that much in the news at all. It's the same as when a celebrity dies; hundreds of other people die that day also but it just doesn't impact as many people. I like to think of the poem that starts, "No man is an island." Every human being is important and part of the bigger community of man.
Personally, I hope he recovers fully and quickly so that it will be a non-issue.
