It's inspired very loosely by a supposed place in europe somewhere where you can pay thousands of dollars to go in a room and shoot someone in the head....it's basically just a rumor of that place, so Eli Roth (the writer and director, not Tarantino) embellished a whole lot on that idea

Tarantino was just one of the Executive Producers....Eli Roth is no dummy...he knows that slapping Tarantino's name on the front could only help him

Supposedly the idea came from a web site that someone stumbled upon by chance. The web site advertised a hunting expedition in Europe where the wild game was humans. After the movie came out the website disappeared. If you liked this movie you should watch the movie "The Most Dangerous Game". It's also about people paying to hunt humans. There is another movie like these but I can't think of the name.

No, but that kind of stuff goes on everyday in this world. We live in a very demented and weird world. I wouldn't be surprised if a big underground torture culture sprouted up because of this movie.

NO! It wasn't although the movie tried to make you think that it was. I liked it, though. Especially when they had to cut the Asian woman's eyeball out.
