Why not? I love kids! and it is a sign that you care. The 5 year old is not a "job" she is a child. Now if they are jahovahs witness then i would say don't cause they don't give presents. Otherwise why ask the question?

Yes,I would. My Daughters used to always buy for the little kids they babysat with throughout the year, they just liked getting the litle ones a gift. What about a book you can read to her the next time you sit with her? Or a stuffed animal she can cuddle with when you aren't there for her to think of you?

You should give her a gift, and actually, you will probably receive one as well (at least you should). I used to always give gifts to the kids I regularly babysat for. Like others have said, nothing too big or expensive, just a nice $15 gift. You know her well and can probably pick out something she will love!

Regardless of the fact that her mom is your employer, do you WANT to get her a present? If so, then go for it! I think her mom would think highly of you if you did. It shows you really care for her child, and don't just see her as a way to make money.

I would. That would mean so much to the little girl. I am a parent of two children and if their sitter did that it would mean a lot to me. It shows that you care not only as an employee but for her as a person. I think it would be very thoughtful for you to do.

I would, she probably looks forward to the time she spends with you. She is not your employer, her mother is. It will make her happy to know you thought of her at Christmas.

Just as a gesture you can get her a small doll or stuffed animal.
Do you like the child? That's all that really matters.
It's Christmas!

You may want to even purchase a gift for the family. That might be a good middle road to take.
