I think that there is no such thing as a traditional family. A family is the nucleus of society. It is consider a nucleus because it should be the most united group in each society.
The qualification of traditional and not traditional family has been done recently, but its very subjective, not an objective qualification. It depends on education, morality, religion, etc. For example, in modern life a divorced family can be considered traditional for some cultures, for other is not traditional at all.
So to define what is a traditional family i can say that it is a family, that for any given person in particular, fulfills the requirements to be one, even if for others its a non traditional family.

a traditional family in my mind is a man and woman married with 2 or more children and own their own home. Where the woman is a housekeeper and does all the home work and the dad goes out to do a job that supports the entire family.
Quite boring to me.
