but when I go to "Edit Friends" he doesn't show up in the listing, is there any other way to delete him?

Open one of his bulletins. At the bottom there should be an option "remove from friends". just click that and all should be solved.

it's very strange that he doesn't show up. If he's a friend in your list and his bulletins show up on your page, then you should be able to delete him. I would suggest going back and double-checking to see if you just overlooked an option to delete him. That would drive me crazy. I hate those ridiculous bulletins!

open one of his many super important bulletins, at the bottom it'll say "delete from friends list"

sounds like your space was hacked. Ask some of your "real" friends if they are getting bulletins and messages from you that you did not send. In the meantime, change your password (which you should do regularly anyway).
Have you tried blocking them?
