I would like to get the boardgame Settlers of Canaan, but it only accommodates 2 to 4 players. I know that there is an expansion for the Settlers of Catan for 5 to 6 players. Will this expansion work for its variant Settlers of Canaan as well?

Yes, there is an expansion to make Settlers of Catan a six-player game. The problem with buying two copies of the game is you get two set of pieces with the same colors! Mayfair Games released a set with with a second set of colors but the game is hard to find now.

The expansion is not compatible with Settlers of Canaan because the gameboard is not modular as is the original game.

If you're looking to play a lighter boardgame without breaking the bank that still plays over four players I'd suggest Power Grid, Tongiaki, Carcassonne, or Bang!.

To get all the expansions for Settlers is not only expensive, but encourages companies to be retarded about how they produce games and expansion. A respectful company would include the minor parts to play the game with more players in the base game/content expansion. To sell a seperate expansion just for more players is obnoxious.

Yes. If, for example you want to play Cities and Knights with six people, you need the following: Settlers game, Settlers expansion (for 5-6), Cities and Knights Expansion (for 4), and then Cities and Knights for 5-6 expansion. Complicated and expensive, but FUN!! Seafarers of Catan can be added to Cities and Knights to play an even deeper game. Is this the question you are asking by 'variants' of Catan (i.e. Cities and Knights, Seafarers, etc)?

Just get 2 copies and combine them. Easiest way to allow for more players.

That's the way we did it.
