I'm not sure what the interface consist of. Do you have to buy a pc card to go with the device, or does the device plug in to ports already on the computer.

Most new PCs come with an integrated SATA controller. If you PC came with a standard IDE hard drive odds are it does not have a SATA interface.

You will need a SATA controller card to go with the SATA hard drive. I recommend you look for the SATA2 standard in both items. It is newer & has a higher data tranfer rate.
