A friend of mine doesnt believe global warming is a problem, when I asked him why he responded.

"Carbon dioxide has the ability to absorb and carry heat right? Well in the last century, there have been a great production of machines that produce carbon dioxide. It didn't take many envirementalist to get the idea that all the new carbon dioxide would make the world alot warmer.
They fear that this new level of heat, caused by carbon dioxide producing machines, could cause the polar ice cap to melt. As a result, there has been a wide call on people to not use gasoline. Now this seems like a very logical theory...

until you consider that plants consume CO2!!!
And the more CO2 there is, the more plants there will be. So, in my opinion, the world will inevitably "correct itself" and It will get colder again."

What is wrong with this idealogy? Please be specific and back yourself up. Thanks!

The fault of that argument is "and the more C02 there is the more plants there will be." There is no evidence to support that. Although plants do consume C02, there are a lot more factors governing the growth of plants and the subsequent tonnage of C02 converted into biological material. The reduction of rainforests, for one, has greatly reduced this planet's ability to process C02. There are so many humans on the planet now that plant life is threatened, and as the ratio of humans to free land with good plants changes, the C02 levels will continue to increase. The biological conversion rate of C02 to plant materials has been constant for millions of years. Unless we can build a new plant with lungs that can process C02 a lot faster, plants won't be able to save us.

But to put a chink in the whole CO2 argument, if you look at fossil records of this planet, there must have been HUGE levels of C02 at some point to create the masses upon masses of coral reefs in the ocean which are composed of Calcium Carbonate. The key ingredients are calcium and CO2. This happened way before we lit fires, so where did all that CO2 come from????? And again, if we hamper the ocean's ability to process CO2 by damaging reef ecosystems, we will destroy the ocean's ability to convert CO2 to calcium carbonate. We should worry less about temperature and worry more about maintaining the earth's ability to remove C02 from the air.

I'm not a botanical person, but I can tell you that no matter what reasons they gave us ( Scientific people giving speeches ), we're facing an awful truth all the industrial stuff that it's in the air right now is devastating nature itself.

Just look around you, the weather has gone insane, winter is taking longer ( Instead of 3 months ) and has stronger colds. It happens the same at the summer, this year in several cities around the world the heat went up to 50c when it never has those cities been into hell like that.

We're facing something that is hitting us hard, and that something was created by us.

People keep cutting down forests and paving over grasslands to make cities for our increasing population. So where are the extra plants going to grow?

Besides, there seems to be some evidence that warmer seas retards the growth of green plantation, so don't count on the oceans to take up the slack caused by deforestation (besides, increased pollution caused by an increasing population is killing off the seas anyway).

The more CO2 there is the more plants there will be?
That theory sounds great until you factor in all the vegetation that is being wiped out to graze cattle, build houses and roads etc. Perhaps nature would help us out if we let the plants grow but we don't let them.

Plants do help reduce the amount of free CO2 in the atmosphere, but we have to factor in that fact that humans are destroying plants in enormous quantities by cutting down northern forests for wood and wood products and clearing vast tracts of tropical forests and jungles.

Simple--WATER as it heats up more water will be in an evaporative state more droughts will happen no water--no plants. Although I feel aids is going to kill off a shitload of people leaving the world with a drastically smaller population this will drastically reduce the amount of manufacturing done and vehicles on the roads.

CO2 is causing the ozone layer to disintegrate, leading to more harmful rays of teh sun being able to reach us. more sun means more heat. also carbon dioxide in the air leads to breathing problems. global warming is really here, becuase the average temperature does rise every year. on decembe 1 in maryland, it ws 77 degrees!
