Check local community calendar or events calendar for free things to go do and see. Drive around and look at Christmas lights,taking some hot cocoa to drink with you. Maybe some popcorn to munch on. Check local Churchs,etc for programs Go to candle light Service at a local Church. School Christmas programs Take a long walk together and check out the neighbor hood decorations and lights Go to the Mall and window shop and look at all the decorations,ok I have run out of ideas LOL

If you aren't joining friends or relatives, how about making a day-trip someplace nice? For example, seeing the sites from the car and stopping at a pleasant restaurant? My folks live near a pretty town that is well known for baked bread and apple pie....you might have something similar nearby. (I'd recommend you call and check if they are open either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.) A day trip could be more fun than staying at home and exchanging (often expensive) gifts.

A few years ago I was separated and had been laid off, so money was definitely an issue for me and my 2 daughters for Christmas. I adopted a kitten at the animal shelter a couple of weeks before christmas, it gave 'new life' to our christmas and had so much fun with the cat we didn't miss opening 100 presents. Make it a romantic Christmas. Have a candle lit dinner. Take a ride looking at the beautiful Christmas lights.

Cook your selves a really nice midday meal and take a walk. Curl up by the fire and watch sappy movies. Go visit friends who don't have children. Go dancing if you can. Have a snowball fight with your sweety. Bake together. Look to see what things are going on Christmas day in you area (if any) and go and attend. Give back by serving food at a homeless shelter. HAVE FUN!!!

How about taking a nice romantic walk, writing and giving each other love coupons or favor coupons (example: one coupon for a massage, or for washing the car), then snuggling up on the couch and watching a nice Christmas movie.

write out cards for free back massage, free time together,e tc
then cook a nice meal, put some candles out, etc.
if you like the outdoors go see the christmas lights near you, go to a mountain, take pictures
other idea: take a picture of the two of you, blow it up and have it framed (may frames at goodwills, etc)

One year, I was really broke and still wanted to get my sisters Christmas presents. I went around to the department stores and asked for samples in the cosmetic departments-- moisturizers, perfumes, etc. Hit every counter in about 4 stores and walked out with quite a haul. Bought three cheap baskets and tissue paper, and gave them each a basket filled with all kinds of samples of beauty products. They talked about them for the longest time!
The men in my family that year got tins of homemade cookies, each in their favorite flavor. Since no one in their houses baked, they were really appreciated!
