I have pet turtles I have had for about 21 years, they are doing great and perfectly healthy however they are outgrowing the house, I don't feel it's fair to keep them cooped up. I won't let them go in the wild or give them to just anyone. Does anyone know of any reptile conservation type place I can take them to? Possibly around kentucky.

The best results seem to come from flyers in local pet shops offering them free to a good home.

Next, you can try local animal adoption agencies for other pets- even if they don't take them, they may know who will.

Sadly, many places cannot take on any more adult sliders or some other species because there are just too many of them and no one adopts adult sliders. Most zoos have also stopped taking pets because of space or budget issues.

This can be a tough thing to do, I know. I am glad you are not going to just release it- that is just plain bad for everyone involved.

your best bet to make sure they will continue to thrive in a new home is to look for a national park near you. Most national parks have live displays of a lot of animals. I'm betting they are either red eared sliders, these are the most common. I would be cautious about giving them to someone who wants to put them outside if they have a pond. For 21 yrs they have lived indoors and have no idea how to live in the wild. Even if someone fed them they wouldn't know how to protect them selves from preditors. I hope you find a good home for them. Good luck.

I know that you want somewhere around kentucky... but I live in Canada, so I can suggest Reptilia... it's in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada... 1-888-REPTILIA... I know that they are really good about taking reptiles off the hands of owners that don't want/can't handle/can't afford/can't house (etc..) their reptiles... call them up. They may be able to come up with something to get you to get your turtles to them.

Good luck!!

Leave an ad in your local or surronding area newspaper, tell them that they need a bigger home. Maybe with a pond or little lake by it.

why don't you build a pen in your backyard for them? install a pond in the middle out of the pre-formed pond you can get at Lowe's or Home Depot, plant it well and they have their own
little place
