Clean it when you change the strings (which you should do regularly to keep them sounding nice and bright). That way you can clean the whole fretboard and around the pickups.

Just wipe everythinig down with a soft cloth. Use a Q-tip to get dust out of cracks (like around the pickups). You can use some windex too, like the previous post mentioned, just be sparing with it and make sure you wipe it all off. There are some special guitar cleaning solutions you can get at a music store, but for an electric I don't think they're really needed.

Like everyone-else here, I clean it everytime I change the strings. I usually just use a damp cloth and Q-tips. I guess the Windex thing woud be OK, but if you use a cleaner, be careful, because I've heard horror stories about certain cleaners ruing the finish or leaving a sticky film.

I usually use those guitar polishers and fretboard cleaners you can buy from guitar shop stores. I clean my guitar every time
I change all my strings, which is once a month.

use windex and paper towels.....thats good around the body and along the fretboard.... its alrite over the metal too, makes everything shiney.
just dont poor the windex on the guitar, put it on the paper towel and go from there.... and try to keep excess windex from getting in the cracks around the hardware... dont leave wet spots up there.
thats about it, i do that all the time, my guitars always get dirty!(means that you use them for what they are made for!)
