Since you are asking this question, I am guessing you are referring to what happened the other night when there was a bad snap on a extra point attempt and the defender recovered and ran all the way down field while the refs were blowing the play dead.
So to answer your question: in the NFL, when the defending team recovers the ball on an extra point attempt the play is dead. If the kicker, holder or, any other person on the extra point team would have recovered the loose ball it would still have been alive.

I will set it all straight for you.
In the NFL, if a PAT is blocked or there is a bad snap, the kicking team can pick it up and attempt to throw or run the ball in for two points. If the defense recovers the ball, the play is dead.
*Only in college football can the defense recover the missed PAT and run the ball back for two points, NOT in the NFL.*

No..The Kicking team can recover from the bad snap and try to kick the ball for the extra point...Or recover the ball and attempt to run the ball or Pass..which would result in 2 points instead of 1. If the Defense picks the ball up they can return the ball for 2 points also..

No, the ball is live and if the kicker, holder, or anyone gets the ball into the end zone it is worth 2pts. The ball is not dead because of a bad snap on a field goal try either. They can attempt to advance the ball.
Also the defense could pick up the ball and return it for 2pts the other way. This of course would be on the extra point try not a field goal. For the field goal the defense could returnit for a TD.

The team kicking the extra point can still attempt to make the kick, or run/throw the ball in the end-zone for the extra point. If they run or throw the ball they get two points, if they manage to make a kick (unlikely in this scenario) they get one point.

The kicking team would have the option to pick the ball up and try to score a two point conversion, however if the defense touched the ball before the kicking team the play would be dead.

the play is dead if the other team recovers it.
it is not dead if someone from the kicking teams gets it. (it can be anyone, including the holder)
usually if the holder can get it back up in time, the kicker can still get the 1 point. if not, anyone on the kicking team can pick it up and try to run it in (or throw it in) for a 2 point conversion.

No, it does NOT!
If there is a bad snap, the holder can try to recover the ball and set it in time for the kicker. Or, the holder can try and recover the ball and try for a 2-point conversion. The ball is not dead.

Christy,
The play is still alive and several potential actions may occur. The team might be able to run it into the endzone, or place it down and try to kick it.
Of course, the defense can try to grab it, and could possibly run it all the way back.
In these situations, the kicking team usually does not have time to re-try the kick, since the defense is baring down at them very fast. Basically, it gets helter skelter....but it's LIVE.
