I had the same problems with my PC. It was because there was a malicious program from spyware (stuff you get when you surf the internet) that would keep on shutting my computer off after I turned it on. I tried deleting it but it kept on popping back everytime I turned on the computer. I finally had to back up my hard drive and reinstall XP. You should download Adaware SE to see if you have any malicious adware.

Major reason could be the processor fan is not working and your system hence automatically shuts itself down. Open your PC and check both your processor and power supply fans. If either of them are not working do not use your computer till you have replaced the fan.

In case the fans are working, boot in safe mode and then scan your system. Secondly, update it as well as soon as you can. Here are some SWs to check for problems on your system.

OK, first is this a name brand computer? Dell, Gateway, HP?

Second, do you hear any fans running after turning the computer on?

By the way, it sounds like you have a bad power supply.

First you have to make sure that your fan works.

Second, you could have a virus on your computer that causes your computer to shut down after a given time period.

I had a virus and it continually caused my computer to shut down.

Hope this helped.

Make sure you power supply fan is working properly. Your power supply might be damaged. Hold you hand to the back of your computer and make sure the fan is on. Also open up the computer and make sure the cpu fan is also working.

Check that all connections are OK. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Could be many things. Bad Power Supply, Failed Hard Drive, Video Card Messed Up, it's hard to say what the problem is.

Take it to a shop.
