'Poker tells'
(tell-tale signs that you are bluffing at poker)

It is not possible to determine whether someone is lying according to which way they look as a quick and fast rule as everyone has their own individual 'tells' (giveaway signs that they are telling a porky pie). Bill Clinton's was stroking his nose when saying that he never donged his secretary. (this is due to increased bloodflow in the cappilaries of the nose.)

I suppose that as the right side of the mind controls the left side of the body and is also the creative side of the brain that when your brain is concocting and elaboarate fib the right side of the brain could stimulate the left side of the body and the physical reaction could be a glance to the liars left.

There are those who have done lots of research on body language and arrived at a conclusion but it is a fact that a skilled liar can look you directly in your eye and lie and you still wont be able to tell if it is true or not.

Try it on yourself and see what happens. When I try to recall something which requires me to really think back I find myself looking to my left. When I am troubleshooting and analysing a problem I look to my right.

Does that mean I am lying if I answer a question while looking to my right? No, it does not. It could mean while answering your question something caught my attention on that side.

However, if you are alone with someone and there are no distractions and you ask them a question and they do not make eye contact while answering then in all likelihood they are either not telling the truth or they are embarrassed.

Even though it's a saying "Your eyes are windows to your soul" it is very true. Some people instinctly feel you can tell if they are lying if they see your eyes so they avoid eye contact when answering your question.

If only life were as simple as that; single, universal rules for every occasion.

There aren't any 'golden tells' that will always occur in a certain situation. The 'body language' that you can see around you is as diverse as any other language.

People are often confused by others who seem to be saying one thing and actually mean another. In this example, the 'handed' rule gives its own answer; you can expect right-handed people to reverse any behaviour habitually applicable to left-handed folk.

In reality, shifting the gaze can indicate any number of things, and can only really be 'read' if you know the person's behavioural range very intimately.

Not an answer.
Just an anecdote which bears on ?.
Had a boss who said he could read people.
Must have read a book or took a management seminar.
When he would try to "read " me , I would stonewall & deliberately give the opposite signal, like covering my mouth or crossing my arms or whatever to throw him off even when I answered honestly.
Saying "I don't understand or please explain "would really get his goat" & he would just shake his head .
Arrogant asshole never knew he was being played.
Anyhow I'd go with the poker player.

When someone gives you directions, does 'take a right' mean
a) your right
b) jump on a soap box and act like Malcolm X in his peak of enthusiasm
c) the flowering of the juniper berry when consumed by a fuzzy dingbat
or d) the right as gaged by the 5th leg from the left starting in the top centre position and then counting clockwise of the commom fur tick inhabiting the fur of forest wombats

Which is it? - This one has puzzled me for some time.

To their left. When a person looks to their right as they're speaking, they're usually recalling a memory. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard it a lot, so there might be something to it!

If she comes to a decision to contest the eviction-it ought to take longer. It looks like what you relatively needed rather of a tenant became a slave that ought to pay you funds. you in simple terms in simple terms locate out that your pregnant on the 31 and rapidly grocery procuring is in simple terms too strenuous? that may not her project-it relatively is yours. It doens't sound as while you're very superb-you are able to deliver your husband to learn on her activity-*harassment* yet you need to no longer do a back floor verify on her first to confirm previous activity and tenant history? Had you suggested as somebody you have gotten found out she became a liar. you would be able to additionally produce different problems counting on your state, county and city regulations appropriate to renters rights-yet i'm specific in case you probably did no longer have the hardship-unfastened experience or regard on your loved ones's protection to do a back floor verify on a guy or woman who you invited to share place of abode with- you will no longer verify the regulations related to a criminal settlement you entered with this female or the rights she now has. If she desires to sue you-she will. Lotsa luck.

if they look to the right it is to retrace something in their memory.

It doesn't matter whose left... they just won't look you directly in the eye. Its instinctual and most people don't even realize they do it.
