The labor! It's like dying a slow death almost..
The birthing part is over before you know it, so it's not that bad. It's painful, but it's quick. The labor part just seems like it'll never end though. Whatever you do, go for the medication!

Well to be more specific the transition part of labor is the worse. the first part of labor in a typical L&D:
1-3 cent. dil. Mild to sever menstrual cramps. You know the kind that can make one eye close and you breath in deep. lolol
4-6 cent dil. sever menstrual cramps to relizing this isnt gonna be easy kind of pain. This is where your breathing tech. come in real handy and a good coach. This is the point where if your gonna get an epidural GET ONE. IF not start really tring to do your breathing and dont waste your contractions by tensing up during one.
7-9 cent dil. OH this def. isnt fun nor easy anymore kind of pain. The kind that makes wish you would have gotten that epidural. the kind that makes you think that no one could possibly survive being in this much pain. transition starts at the later part here.
9-10 cent-dil the pressure to push becomes much stronger than the pain. In most cases the pressure here is worse than the pain.
delivery
PUsh push push. I was scared that the pain of actual birth would be bad, regardless of how much my mom (l&d nurse said it wasnt) And i was def. scared of an episiotomy because i knew they didnt numb you before the cut.
BUt now i know she was right; Because of th epressure of the babys head against the vaginal walls and skin there is very little blood supply to the surrounding areas. So the nerve endings are not working greatly at this time, and due to that there is no pain from the episiotomyand are the baby passing thru the vaginal opening. Hope this helps. And like i said this is a typical in the majority situation. Not all go exactly like this. It is really about your own pain tolerance, you know your body better than any one. And need to make the decisions according to what you know about yourself.

The first part of labor isn't bad, it's the part before the birth! That's when it gets to the point that it isn't tolerable any more, and you are screaming at whoever you can for an epidural! I was in labor for 13.5 hours, and than had an emergency c-section because my son's heart was only beating a few times a minute. The most painful part is after the c-section!

When I was pregnant with my first child, I had very painful back labor that lasted 22 hours. With my second child I had mild back labor lasting 12 hours, but the birth was painful because my son was large. My last child I had mild back labor and he was born within an hour of my first contraction. I can't really remember what the pain felt like. I think the worst part is the waiting for the baby to finally arrive.

Labor is the worst. Giving Birth all you feel is a little pressure when the baby comes out. Good Luck

I think every labor and childbirth is different. With my first daughter, even though the labor was long and excruciating, I think the birth was worse because I had to push for over an hour and by that point I was exhausted. With my second daughter, the labor was worse- I was stuck at 8 centimeters for 15 hours. Then she just sort of popped out.
When the baby is finally out, though, you forget all about the pain you just went through and just marvel in your new miracle. It's definitely worth it!

The worst part is the labor pain. The actually giving birth doesn't really hurt as bad as labor it more of a relief when you get to push.

For me it was birth. I know it sounds silly, but its true. Labor took hours and hurt like hell. I was all excited when it came time to push. So I tried real hard and the head was out. Yay!.....but I wasn't done. I had to push again. And worse, some idiot in the room reminded me that the shoulders are bigger than the head. Thanks, not! So after the birth, another lovely person I wanted to punch massaged my uterus to help it go back down. That was agony. Even with later births, the pushing part always sucks the most for me. I go natural (no drugs) and I still hate those shoulders the most!!

the four weeks after i think. the labor only last some hours and the birth a few minutes, but u gotta deal with four weeks of ur uterus contracting as it shrinks and the pain of the stitches if u tore. (the peeing is the pain) lol all the bleeding isnt exactly fun either (doesnt hurt much) but its a lot to deal with
