Maybe it is because of our insane liberal governor (granholm) who has taxes so high for businesses that most people can not even start a business in this state. Why go here when you have Ohio right below Michigan

I say bullcrap to those who say the booming economy is an untruth. The economy is robust. The truth of the matter is that cars are selling like crazy, especially in areas of high population and low taxes, but most of the sales are imports because people get more bang for their buck. The loopy liberals love their labor unions and now that auto manufacturers have to pay a floor sweeper $30 an hour, they can't compete with the Hondas and Toyotas. Have you noticed how many foreign cars are now manufactured in the USA and how many Americans they employ in their non-union plants?

I admit that I still buy American, well, traditional American because I drive Jeeps, which are made by Daimler-Chrysler. But I can see why Michigan is gasping.

I live in California and they say we have one of the best economies and right now we do a have a Republican governor and he actually got rid of some of the national debt. Yes we are a blue state but our economy is probably mostly due to our size and influence, if we were a red state we would have a better economy than the United States excluding California.
However my new favorite state is South Dakota they have the best Governor.
btw I sometimes question weather the United States truly still is the economic leader.

I live in the blue state of CA and with the wealth of this state as shown by Bilbo I have to say the Libs don't know how to spend money and they love to take in as much tax money as possible. Ca has one of the highest poverty rates in the US. Ca schools rank in the bottom 10 for grades K-12 but as a country it would rank as the # 8- #10 largest depending on who's studies you go by. Blue states have bad economies due to poor money management.

Michigan has the worst economy and the reason is simple, the economic boom is not a reality. People don't buy new cars when they are laid off of work or can't find work and we are heavily embedded in the auto industry. The figures handed out by the feds are ambiguous at best, as they do not count how many are out of work but only count those that are drawing compensation, leaving those that have run out of compensation not counted.

Man you guys should have Jodi Rell. She is a moderate Republican and she is doing an outstanding job. I mean simply outstanding the state has a surplus again over 400 million dollars, unemployment is down, we still have our sub base, she is bring in film work, agressively going after hollwood to make movies here and boy it is working.
It is expensive to live here sure, but jobs are up, I mean it is just looking good in CT these days.

SO you guys should to try to woo her maybe.

You should have identified your blue state. Generally, blue and red states are afflicted by the same economic problems. The most significant problems are the export of good jobs and manufacturing enterprises, and the import of millions of illegal immigrants. The export of good jobs cause Americans to take lower paying jobs. The import of illegal immigrants drives down the wages of the already low paying jobs. All Americans lose!

Because the auto industry failed to stay up to date with the rest of the world. Tell me, do you know where the economy of the beautiful blue state of California ranks in the world?

I'm sure that's a factor. Incompetent executives at the Big 3 are also factors.

Michigan? Because no business wants to open there because it is so heavily unionized. They stay away from Michigan and probably will for a long time.
