Bluegrass and Rye grasses tend to brown up in fall and go dormant. Fescues will stay green most of the year, if not all year. Zoysia depending on area will do the same as the Fescues if in a warmer climate. Centipede grass will stay green all year.

Depends on what kind of grass you have.

In southern Arizona, we have Bermuda, which goes dormant in the fall and turns wheat-colored. It still needs watering about once per month, but it won't green up again until spring.

Tall fescue should be green. Zoyzia grass is brown after first freeze
